Glass has been a passion
for some time now. Studying, learning, experimenting,
dreaming. Inspiration and motivation to work in glass came
through a trip to the
Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA.
Walking over the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, sitting in the Hot Shop
Amphitheater watching the resident team of glass blowers
demonstrating the process of creation started a dream that needed to
come to fruition.
My focus is on functional art -- glass
that can be displayed as art, yet taken down and used for serving
food or used for a candle setting. The options are limited
only by your imagination.
The process used is
called fusing, where multiple layers of glass are fused together in
a kiln at temperatures up to 1500 degrees, annealed for strength, cooled and then refired
and slumped in a mold to give the piece shape, whether a plate, bowl
or other shape. Simplicity of design, ease of use, and pleasing to the eye
is the goal of the final product. |
